Sportswear giant and FitLab collaborate on Nike Studios.
Nike has announced plans to launch group fitness studios in the USA later this year.
Considering Nike's recent history this should come as no surprise, particularly as the brand collaborated with Netflix last year and earlier this year announced a partnership with Strava.
There will be two studio options, one being Nike Training Studios and the other Nike Running Studios.
Nike Training Studios - Combining interval and strength modalities, Nike Training Studio classes utilize weights, kettlebells, sleds, sandbags, and other functional equipment. The programming is broken into periodized training blocks that rotate through three workout types, with the opportunity to assess progress after each period.
Nike Running Studios - Split between treadmill and floor work, Nike Running Studio classes go beyond cardio to target strength, balance, mobility, and more as part of Sprint, Capacity, and Endurance workouts. The most unique feature is the NRS Pace Screen, displaying solo and group challenges for an immersive experience.
Fitlab
Fitlab describes itself as a fitness and sports lifestyle company that offers digital and boutique fitness studio experiences and merchandise. It claims to be the first platform to connect every aspect of a consumer's fitness lifestyle, bringing immersive experiences to life whenever, wherever, and however they train.
FitLab co-founder Brian Kirkbride is a former Nike innovator, having overseen the Nike+ Lab and the company’s accelerator program, so this new collaboration makes a lot of sense..
The Future of Fitness Is Already Here
As LFX members are well aware we will focus on the this kind of development in September as we look at the rise in competitive fitness events.
What I expect Nike to do is apply technology that will enable studio members to compete 'virtually' and in teams against other Nike studios. I could be wrong but it will be interesting to see what emerges from this partnership.
